High ratio mortgage refers to a mortgage, in which the amount of money borrowed is equal to or greater than 75% of the purchase price of the property, against which it is secured. It is backed by an insurance against default payments, which is usually provided by the government agency. It requires down payment of less than 25% of the purchase price of the property.
